Tiara Thomas, MS, MHC-LP
"Tiara was there for me during the darkest times in my life. Her patience, kindness and nurturing personality allowed me to grieve properly and cope with the situation."
Life can bring about challenges from finding safety and security within the spaces we are in to struggling with self advocacy. From the instability created throughout the pandemic, to exploring the impact of your cultural identity, or learning to heal as a trauma survivor (including racial trauma), you will be provided with an affirming and strength-focused space for you to be heard as you address any of these areas and more. I embody a warm, collaborative therapeutic style that allows you to join in designing the path of exploration and goals that we work towards together.
I use a warm, empathetic approach that helps you gain awareness and understanding of your presenting challenges rather than focusing on the diagnosis. As an African American woman, I prioritize the intersectionality of culture and mental health as sometimes our environments have created barriers to accessing wellness. I use psychodynamic and CBT approaches.
I have a deep understanding of the impact of mental and emotional stress on the body and use somatic exercises to ground you. Wherever you are on your journey of self-love and healing, remember to be kind to your mind and thank yourself for starting the process of growth.
When I’m not in sessions, I love to shop online, read romantic novels, take my dog to dog friendly restaurants and outings, travel, and go to the beach.
